Job Summary

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at New Communities, you will play a vital role in providing direct care support to adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Acting as a role model and providing guidance and support to clients
• Administering medication and assisting with personal care
• Encouraging clients to be as independent as possible, both at home and in the community
• Attending and actively promoting recreational, social outings, and activities for our clients
• Providing transportation for clients using New Communities company vehicles

Key Responsibilities

* Provide direct care support to adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism, including assistance with personal care, medication administration, and daily living activities

• Act as a role model and provide guidance and support to clients to promote independence and self-advocacy
• Develop and implement individualized care plans to meet the unique needs of each client
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care and support
• Participate in recreational, social outings, and activities for clients, including transportation using New Communities company vehicles
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client care and services provided

Essential Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent required

• 18 years of age or older
• Active driver's license
• Experience in direct care preferred, but not required (willing to train)
• Ability to communicate effectively with residents and coworkers whose primary language is English

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., social work, psychology, special education)

• Experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism
• Certification in direct care or a related field (e.g., CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration)

Skills and Competencies

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Compassion, empathy, and understanding of the needs of adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems
• Ability to lift, bend, and move clients as needed
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
