About the Department of English

The Department of English at the University of Texas at Arlington is seeking adjunct faculty for the Fall 2023 semester. We encourage people qualified to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online courses in Developmental English and/or First Year Writing to contact us, with preference going to candidates who can also teach Creative Writing, Sophomore Literature, and/or Technical Writing as needed. Our department is committed to providing access and ensuring student success, and to a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization of discoveries by our community of scholars.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Developmental English and/or First-Year Writing and/or other courses as assigned
  • Prepare and deliver course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback to students in a timely manner
  • Hold office hours and respond to student inquiries
  • Participate in departmental meetings and events as needed
  • Contribute to the development and revision of curriculum and courses

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of 18 hours of relevant graduate-level coursework in English or a closely related field
  • Ability to teach courses in Developmental English and/or First-Year Writing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or MFA in English or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online courses
  • Ability to teach Creative Writing, Sophomore Literature, and/or Technical Writing
  • Experience with curriculum development and revision
