Join the Team Revolutionizing Global Connectivity with Amazon's Project Kuiper

Amazon's Project Kuiper is an ambitious initiative aimed at launching a constellation of low-orbit satellites to provide low-cost broadband connections to underserved communities worldwide. As a Software Engineer on our Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team, you will play a crucial role in developing the software that enables the operation of these satellites and the ground instruments that support them.

About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer to join our GNC team, which is responsible for creating the constellations that provide effective space coverage and security. As a key member of this team, you will develop software that works in tandem with satellites, ground instruments, and other equipment necessary for the development and operation of the Kuiper system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop software for satellites, ground instruments, and other equipment necessary for the Kuiper system
  • Participate in defining software project requirements and prototyping design ideas
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test and validate software and hardware components
  • Help troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during testing, manufacturing, and flight operations
  • Work on advanced modeling and simulation software to predict orbital conditions and optimize routes
  • Contribute to the development of systems that control and maneuver satellites, ensuring their safe operation and avoiding collisions

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering)
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience in non-trivial design or architecture (design principles, reliability, and scaling) with new and existing systems
  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language (e.g., C++, Java, Python)
  • 1+ year of experience in at least one of the following areas: embedded systems and avionics, feedback control systems, or real-time software
  • Experience with design principles, data structures, and test development
  • Familiarity with standard and comprehensive engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will make you a more competitive candidate:

  • 3+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including code principles, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operational experience
  • Interdisciplinary development knowledge, including design and validation of hardware, software, and algorithms
  • Expertise in real-time operating systems, embedded Linux, and system programming, concurrency, and features
  • Experience with developing, testing, and monitoring time-critical or security systems
  • Familiarity with sensors, actuators, vehicle electronics/avionics, and/or control systems
  • Simulation experience in different situations, such as hardware-in-the-loop, Monte-Carlo, and emulators
  • Experience working with systems deployed in critical environments
  • Experience supporting the development of equipment and tools for scientific/engineering staff
