Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans to support ELL students in achieving English language proficiency
  • Assess student progress, identify areas of improvement, and adjust instruction to meet individual needs
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Communicate with parents and guardians to inform them of student progress and involve them in the learning process
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum, share best practices, and address student needs
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on ELL best practices and research-based instruction
  • Administer assessments to determine student language proficiency and program eligibility
  • Model effective oral and written English language skills to support student development
  • Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and student aides to support the ELL program

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A State of Oregon Teaching License with ESOL PK-12 endorsement
  • A current First Aid Card
  • Prior experience working with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate students, direct support personnel, and evaluate performance
  • Knowledge of curriculum, educational code, and district policies
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, maintain records, and perform various specialized tasks
  • Significant physical abilities, including reaching, handling, fingering, talking, and hearing conversations, as well as near and far visual acuity

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working with ELL students and developing culturally responsive instruction
  • Knowledge of language acquisition theories and research-based ELL instructional practices
  • Ability to work in a remote environment and stay organized and motivated
