About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Pharmacy Technician I to join our team at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital Pharmacy. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing critical support to our faculty, staff, students, and clients. As a Veterinary Pharmacy Technician I, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy and delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Pharmacy Patient-Related Care:
• Accurately interpret, fill, and dispense orders and prescriptions
• Prepare and package medications, pharmaceuticals, prescriptions, and returned goods for shipment
• Assist in preparing pharmaceutically elegant, sterile, and stable products using scales, balances, hoods, and autoclave
• Understand and perform all steps involved in the antigen program
• Pharmacy Operations:
• Check daily reports, verify sales, check discrepancies, and balance records
• Maintain, control, and keep accurate records of controlled substances in Cubex Machines, Small Animal Pharmacy, and Large Animal Pharmacy lock boxes
• Adhere to laws and regulations governing the preparation, dispensing, and compounding of prescription drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical products
• Participate in the annual physical inventory as well as perpetual inventory
• Assist in the expired drug program and maintain inventory on all pharmacy storage locations
• Communications and Public Relations:
• Interact with clients, faculty, staff, students, and administrators to ensure the highest standard of public relations communication
• Orient veterinary students and assist them in complying with pharmacy policies and procedures and prescription drug laws
• Equipment Management:
• Account for equipment checked out for use in clinics
• Train to be proficient in cleaning and using endoscope equipment and manage Cubex dispensary machines

Requirements and Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

• Required Education: Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Required Experience: One year of experience in a health-related field
• Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
• Basic computer skills in word processing and data entry

Preferred qualifications include:

• Preferred Education: Associate degree in biomedical sciences or related field
• Preferred Experience: Two years of experience in a health-related field, including one year of experience in a hospital pharmacy
• Preferred Licenses and Certifications: Licensed Pharmacy Technician
• Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge in the use of prescription balance and basic pharmacy calculations
