Job Summary

As a Part-Time Lead Before and After School Instructor, you will play a vital role in guiding elementary-age participants through a range of engaging activities, including sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on learning experiences. You will work closely with the program supervisor to develop and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate programs that promote social-emotional learning, teamwork, and skill-building. This is a part-time, on-site position that requires flexibility and adaptability, with a focus on creating a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for all participants.

Responsibilities

* Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the Y

  • Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child
  • May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children
  • Professionally communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information with parents/guardians
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures
  • Assist in maintaining a developmentally appropriate site, including appearance, décor, and cleanliness
  • May prepare and serve snacks
  • Cleans snack area
  • Assists at check-in or out for parents
  • Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated and qualified staff is not on premises
  • Provides onsite support for the school-based Play Everyday Program at the school
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

* 18 years of age or older

  • 2 or more years of experience with children, including camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying
  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty
  • Experience planning and implementing group activities
  • Have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and have a GED or high school diploma
  • Transcripts will be required during the offer stage to ensure applicants meet state licensing requirements pre-hire
  • Completion of minimum STARS required training
  • Certification in CPR/First aid
  • TB test by Mantoux method
  • Food worker card
  • Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT

Preferred Qualifications

* 21 years of age or older

  • Leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years)
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English
  • Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered
