Experienced Teaching Artist - Bronx, New York: Empowering Youth Through Arts and Education

Job Summary

As a Teaching Artist with The Leadership Program, you will be responsible for implementing our unique student-centered approach in multiple NYC schools. You will work independently to design and deliver arts and education programs that meet the needs and interests of our students. You will also serve as a mentor and positive role model, providing guidance and support to students as they develop their skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

* Work independently to implement programming in some of the most challenging NYC public schools

• Serve as a mentor and positive role model, providing guidance and support to students as they develop their skills and confidence
• Recruit and retain students as needed, using your skills and experience to engage and motivate young people
• Learn and utilize our methodology, adapting it to meet the needs and interests of our students
• Plan and implement after-school programming, using your background and expertise to create engaging and inclusive activities
• Work on special projects and activities with students and community members, using your creativity and initiative to make a positive impact
• Attend staff meetings and training, staying up-to-date on best practices and new developments in arts and education
• Be prepared to physically work in any of our school communities and sites, setting up spaces, picking up and dropping off supplies, and facilitating activities
• Submit appropriate paperwork and enter activity logs, attendance, and other data into our online database bi-weekly

Skills and Knowledge

* We are in need of candidates with backgrounds in martial arts, athletics, multimedia, chess, and dance, so these skill sets are a major plus, be sure to highlight them

• We are also in need of multilingual candidates to include Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Creole, Bengali
• Bachelor's Degree or higher
• A minimum of two years experience working in city public schools or equivalent
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work well and collaborate with team members
• Strong classroom management skills
• Experience with Social Emotional Learning framework a plus
• Technological capacity to provide virtual facilitation if needed, as well as knowledge of virtual platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, etc.
• Experience in Anti-Racist Education and Restorative Justice is a major plus
• Are already, or ready to be, fingerprinted through the State Department of Education

Compensation and Benefits

* After-school rates start at $130 for 3-hour in-person placements/residencies

• Bi-weekly paycheck
