The Sharon Walker School of Education at Morningside University invites applications for a Visiting Professor for Educational Research to deliver coursework in the research core for MAT graduate programs. The anticipated start date is January 3, 2025. This is a full-time position, with an appointment period for the remainder of the 2024-2025 and the 2025-2026 academic year. This position may be remote. The Sharon Walker School of Education focuses exclusively on preparing future educators and providing advanced study for current educators, serving approximately 1,500 students each year across undergraduate, adult, and graduate programs both on campus and online. The School of Education offers traditional initial licensure programs for undergraduate students in elementary and secondary education, as well as 100% online graduate programs, featuring 12 MAT programs, 3 initial licensure graduate degree programs, and 13 graduate advanced practice endorsements. All graduate students in initial licensure and advanced practice MAT degree programs conduct action research. The MAT research core is designed to scaffold research design and evaluation skills leading to a capstone experience at the conclusion of the MAT degree program. Responsibilities: · Embrace action research paradigms as a meaningful form of professional development for educators. · Teach 24 credit hours online, across fall, spring, and summer terms. Possible teaching assignments include Principles of Educational Research, Readings in Education, Designing Action Research, Evaluating Action Research, and Educational Research (capstone). · Deliver and assess student learning in assigned coursework, collaborate with academic coordinators, mentor researchers, and hold virtual office hours. · Participate in the work of the unit as appropriate, including contributing to departmental committees and curriculum redesign as qualified and needed. · Participate in service to the unit and the university; engage in professional development. · Serve as academic coordinator (course author), providing content oversight for select courses in the research core curriculum as qualified, and mentor part time faculty. · Serve as a research mentor as needed; mentor adult and graduate students, as assigned. · Demonstrate the qualities of an effective educator and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Qualifications: · An earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction, education, or closely related field. · Expertise in research design and data analysis, as well as experience and/or openness to quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. Demonstrated practice and extended knowledge of quantitative methods is a plus. · Licensure as an elementary or middle school teacher and K-12 teaching experience preferred. · Prior experience in adult education, nontraditional programs, and/or graduate programs. · Outstanding educational and instructional technology skills, experience using learning management systems, electronic portfolio systems, and remote learning platforms.
