[Remote] Regulatory Counsel (iGaming)

Worldwide Salaried Open

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Initiate International is a fast-growing online betting and gaming operator seeking a Regulatory Counsel to help them scale across the US. The role focuses on providing regulatory advice, managing licensing applications, and ensuring compliance with US state gaming regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, business-focused regulatory advice on US iGaming and sports betting laws and licensing conditions across multiple states
  • Support and manage licensing applications, renewals, amendments, and regulatory notifications, working closely with Compliance and external counsel where required
  • Monitor regulatory developments (rule changes, guidance, enforcement trends) and turn them into practical, state-by-state requirements and actions
  • Advise on product features, UX, terms and conditions, promotions, bonuses, and marketing campaigns to ensure compliance with state and federal rules, advertising standards, and consumer protection requirements
  • Partner with Product and Technology on new launches and enhancements – identifying regulatory risks early and embedding requirements into design and delivery
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with a regulatory dimension (platform providers, content suppliers, payment processors, market access partners, data providers)
  • Work closely with Compliance, AML/MLRO, and Responsible Gambling teams to ensure a coherent control framework across regulatory, financial crime, and safer gambling
  • Support responses to regulatory examinations, audits, investigations, and information requests, preparing clear, well-structured submissions
  • Contribute to internal policies, procedures, risk assessments, and training related to licensing, regulatory compliance, and advertising standards
  • Prepare concise briefings for senior management on regulatory risk, upcoming changes, and the implications for product roadmap and market entry

Skills

  • Qualified lawyer (US or other common law jurisdiction) with strong post-qualification experience in regulatory, gambling, financial services, or technology law
  • Proven ability to interpret statutes, regulations, licence conditions, and regulator guidance – and convert them into practical, actionable advice for non-lawyers
  • Experience supporting licensing applications, market access arrangements, or regulatory projects in a multi-jurisdictional environment
  • Strong drafting skills for T&Cs, internal policies, compliance frameworks, and commercial contracts
  • Commercial mindset: able to frame options in terms of risk, opportunity, and trade-offs – not just 'yes' or 'no'
  • Highly organised, comfortable managing multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment
  • Confident communicator who can engage effectively with Product, Compliance, Marketing, Operations, senior leadership, and regulators
  • Provide clear, business-focused regulatory advice on US iGaming and sports betting laws and licensing conditions across multiple states
