The Office of the New York State Comptroller, led by Thomas P. DiNapoli, is seeking auditors to conduct audits in accordance with government standards. The role involves interviewing local government personnel, developing audit scopes, analyzing findings, and preparing reports to provide guidance and training to local officials.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with local government personnel
  • Assist/develop audit scope, objective(s) and audit tests
  • Gather, analyze, and summarize audit findings and develop recommendations
  • Prepare written documents, including audit reports
  • Provide guidance, technical assistance, and training local officials

Skills

  • A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing
  • For appointment to an Auditor Trainee 2 (Municipal), one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience
  • For appointment to an Auditor Trainee 2 (Municipal), a master's or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, business management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing
  • For appointment to an Auditor 1 (Municipal), two years of professional accounting
  • For appointment to an Auditor 1 (Municipal), a master's or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, business management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing and one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience
  • You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
  • For 70.1 transfer to an Auditor 1 (Municipal), one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-16 or above
  • For transfer to Auditor Trainee 1, SG-12 or above, for Trainee 2, SG-14 or above, depending on qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation
  • Strong analytical skills
