Department Overview: The Summer Term team in the Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) serves as a support unit to campus with a focus on Summer Term (https://summer.wisc.edu/). Summer Term seeks a Student Event Assistant to support Summer Term’s programs and events for UW-Madison students. In particular, the position will work primarily with the Summer Special Projects Coordinator and Early Start Program Manager to provide programmatic and event assistance. All work will support the goal of providing a welcoming and supportive environment for incoming students at UW-Madison. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in higher education as a program coordinator, outreach specialist, or event planner. Anticipated Start Date: May 28, 2026 (flexible) Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): August 31, 2026 (flexible) Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Not Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 10 Maximum: 15 Schedule: This position is expected to work no more than 15 hours per week. A somewhat-regular weekly schedule is preferred, but schedule flexibility is available. This position is expected to be present for the following:

  • SOAR Resource Fair (typically 4:00-5:30pm at the end of each SOAR day; usually M-Th June 1-26, July 13-24, August 3-7)
  • Early Start program events (Some may occur on weekends and/or weeknights. These count toward work hours, and regular office hours will be adjusted as needed)
  • Regularly scheduled training and weekly meetings with the Summer Term staff

The work for this position is completed in-person at our office (21 N. Park St.) and at Summer Term/Early Start events across campus. Potential schedule conflicts must be disclosed and approved by the supervisor prior to accepting the employment offer. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $15.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Student status for the Fall 2026 semester
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff
  • Ability to maintain professional work environments
  • Google Suite proficiency (docs, slides, sheets, etc.)
  • A commitment to welcoming all students and building an inclusive UW-Madison community
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and timelines while maintaining high-quality work
  • Ability to occasionally work independently with little to no supervision
  • Punctual and reliable

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with taking a summer course at UW-Madison
  • Experience in mentoring or supporting undergraduate students
  • Experience with talking about programs, organizations, etc. at tabling events
  • Have knowledge and experience in event planning and implementation
  • Creative ideas for activities and events to help incoming students get comfortable with campus and get to know one another

  • Self-motivated and team-oriented

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Attend staff training and weekly check-ins with the Summer Term staff
  • Attend SOAR Resource Fair (typically 4:00-5:30pm at the end of each SOAR day; M-Th)
  • Help set up events with Summer Term staff for summer outreach and programs
  • Assist program managers in planning, developing and staffing program activities and events for Summer Term Early Start programs
  • Assist with other Summer Term projects which may include planning a Summer Term photoshoot, administrative tasks, creating surveys, etc.
  • Support other teams in the Division of Continuing Studies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands: May require lifting light boxes/items and occasionally transporting items between campus locations.
