Paralegal, Intellectual Property (IP)

Worldwide Salaried Open

Description

  • Join IonQ, a pioneering force in the quantum computing revolution, as an Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal. We are at the vanguard of developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer, leveraging cutting-edge trapped-ion technology. Our mission is to push the boundaries of classical physics and supercomputing to usher in a new era of computational power, with the potential to transform industries such as medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cryptography. As a key member of our IP Legal team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding and maximizing the value of IonQ's intellectual property assets.
  • In this vital role, you will be instrumental in the meticulous docketing, tracking, and monitoring of our extensive patent portfolio. Your responsibilities will include precise data entry into our sophisticated patent and trademark tracking and docketing software systems, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of critical IP information. You will also provide essential support in the preparation and completion of a wide array of IP documents and forms, ensuring compliance with all procedural requirements.
  • A significant aspect of your role will involve diligently tracking patent procedural requirements, crucial timelines, and critical bar dates, thereby mitigating risks and ensuring timely action. Furthermore, you will contribute to the oversight and management of the IP budget, working closely with the Patent Director to ensure efficient resource allocation and financial stewardship. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with our brilliant technologists and experienced legal counsel, gaining deep insights into the intersection of groundbreaking technology and intellectual property law.
  • Your responsibilities will extend to supporting IP Counsels on a broad spectrum of IP matters, including docketing, portfolio management, licensing, and transactional activities. You will serve as a primary point of contact for our IP and portfolio management tools, overseeing IP registration, docketing, licensing, and reporting functions. A key duty will be the diligent management of maintenance fees and annuities, ensuring the continued protection of our valuable patent rights.
  • You will actively assist IP counsel in managing patent and trademark filings handled by outside counsel, coordinating efforts and ensuring smooth execution. Your support will also be crucial for IP counsel on various transactional matters, including the administration and management of IP licensing agreements, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • A significant part of your contribution will involve administering our internal IP-related databases. You will leverage these systems to generate, schedule, and automate reports, providing essential metrics, budget insights, and dashboard views for strategic decision-making. You will collaborate effectively with business partners across the organization, providing them with requested information regarding matters within the IP portfolio.
  • Your role will also encompass working on trademark renewals and use declarations, including the critical task of specimen collection. You will perform preliminary trademark searches using various US, EP, and International databases, contributing to our global IP strategy. You will provide comprehensive general support for all patent and trademark activities to the assigned IP counsel, acting as a reliable and proactive partner.
  • You will be responsible for setting up new matters within our IP management software and billing systems, ensuring accurate and efficient record-keeping. Your support for recurring metrics and reporting will be invaluable for tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement. Furthermore, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials for users of our electronic IP management tools, fostering best practices across the team.
  • This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and possesses a keen eye for detail. You will be empowered to take ownership of your work, contributing directly to the protection of IonQ's groundbreaking innovations. Your ability to manage competing priorities and deliver reliable results will be paramount. We are looking for someone who can build and foster effective, collaborative relationships with colleagues across different departments and who is comfortable working with technology to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. Your proactive approach to problem-solving and your commitment to excellence will be highly valued as we continue to shape the future of computing.
