Job title: Upward Bound Professional Tutor Company: Miami University Job description: Job Title: Upward Bound Professional Tutor Job Summary: The Professional Tutor (part-time, temporary position) provides one-on-one or group tutoring to Hamilton High School students participating in the Miami University Upward Bound program. Tutoring will take place at Hamilton High School during after-school hours on a weekly basis for two hours. The Professional Tutor may also assist by modeling study skills and by mentoring new and returning program participants as well as undergraduate student tutors. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and complete training in accordance with the Minors on Campus policy (https://www.miamioh.edu/policy-library/administration-operations/university-property/minors-on-campus.html). Duties/Physical Demands: Duties include and are not limited to: Provide tutoring to high school youth with coursework in a high school classroom environment or online. Work with tutee to develop a tutoring plan that fits the student's individual needs; offer assistance to develop study strategies; make file notes and communicate with Program Advisor and Program Director about student progress per program and school policies; operate computer and other resources to provide tutoring on-site or remotely; be accessible to students who have come for assistance; complete paperwork in a timely manner; treat all students with kindness and respect; lead academic workshops when necessary. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts earned by date of employment; tutoring or teaching experience (education and experience may be gained concurrently). Desired Qualifications: Consideration may be given to candidates with experience working with a wide variety of students with academic risk factors, who are high school youth, and/or represent diverse backgrounds; Consideration may be given to candidates with experience with first-generation college students and/or TRIO programs; Explain concepts to others effectively; Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds; Possess good organizational skills; Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment; and high school classroom experience.
