Full Stack Developer (Remote Opportunity)

VetsEZ is seeking a Mid-Level Full Stack Software Developer to support the modernization and sustainment of enterprise applications within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) environment. This role contributes to the design, development, and maintenance of secure, scalable, and cloud-hosted web applications supporting critical healthcare and operational systems. The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on developer with experience across the full stack who also demonstrates the ability to leverage AI tools and capabilities to enhance software development, testing, and delivery efficiency. The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications using .NET (Framework and/or .NET Core), ASP.NET MVC, C#, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Build responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces aligned with Section 508 standards
  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs to support application functionality and integrations
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code using established coding standards and best practices
  • Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization across environments
  • Develop and execute unit tests and support automated testing efforts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Jira and Confluence for task tracking, documentation, and knowledge sharing
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
  • Contribute to system documentation, including technical designs and implementation details
  • Support deployment, monitoring, and maintenance activities in cloud environments (Azure preferred)

AI-Enabled Development Responsibilities

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar) to improve code quality, development speed, and problem-solving
  • Integrate AI capabilities into applications where appropriate (e.g., AI APIs, NLP services, automation features)
  • Utilize AI-driven tools to enhance testing, including test case generation, code analysis, and defect detection
  • Apply prompt engineering and structured AI usage to support development workflows and documentation
  • Evaluate and recommend AI tools, frameworks, or services that improve team productivity and software quality
  • Ensure responsible and secure use of AI in compliance with enterprise and federal guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of professional full-stack development experience
  • Strong proficiency in: NET Framework and/or .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, C#, JavaScript, HTML and CSS, MS SQL Server development
  • Experience with debugging, unit testing, and delivering production-quality code
  • Experience working in Agile environments using tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
  • Understanding of secure coding practices
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into applications (e.g., OpenAI APIs, Azure AI services, or similar frameworks)
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and tooling
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with Azure services (App Services, Key Vault, Application Insights)
  • Experience with Windows Server environments
  • Familiarity with VA systems or federal healthcare environments
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices and infrastructure-as-code
