  • The Solutions Design Engineer 1 role at Comcast Business is critical to ensuring seamless telephony network design and order management, directly supporting the delivery of reliable connectivity and communications solutions for enterprise and small business customers across the nation’s largest Gig-speed broadband network.
  • This position plays a key role in maintaining service continuity, SLA compliance, and billing readiness by translating customer requirements into accurate technical designs and ensuring all workflow steps are completed correctly.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities include performing intermediate-level telephony design engineering tasks such as developing transport and call-flow designs, documenting circuit and facility specifications with precision, and validating order accuracy in the Orion platform to prevent service disruptions.
  • The engineer collaborates with internal teams, technical leads, and vendors to clarify call-flow requirements, resolve design issues, and ensure all process updates are communicated and implemented across teams.
  • They review customer orders for Day of Install (DOI) readiness, execute DOI-related steps, and provide detailed documentation to prevent escalations and ensure clear expectations for both internal stakeholders and end users.
  • The role involves contributing to process improvement by identifying workflow gaps, recommending enhancements, and helping maintain and update Solutions Design Engineering processes and policies under general supervision.
  • Success requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, urgency, and the ability to manage workloads effectively while adhering to KPIs, SLAs, and operational policies.
  • The engineer supports a culture of 'One Comcast' by fostering collaboration, shared accountability, and partnership across divisions, aligning with company values such as owning the customer experience, driving results, and promoting inclusion.
  • They are expected to continuously learn and advocate for Comcast’s digital tools and technologies, participate in feedback loops like the Net Promoter System, and act as an active contributor to team goals and customer satisfaction.
  • The position requires familiarity with Business VoiceEdge (BVE) product architecture, call-routing behavior, and design standards, enabling the engineer to support BVE deployments with technical accuracy.
  • Proficiency with the Orion order-management platform is essential, including navigating order details, validating workflow steps, reviewing errors, and ensuring orders progress correctly through upstream systems for billing and fulfillment.
  • This role offers exposure to end-to-end telephony solution design within a major telecommunications provider, providing a strong foundation in network engineering, order management, and cross-functional coordination.
  • The engineer gains hands-on experience with industry-standard platforms and processes used in large-scale service delivery, building expertise applicable to future roles in telecom, network engineering, or solutions architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of coursework, experience, or extensive related professional experience considered
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience in telephony, network engineering, or solutions design
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Orion order-management platform and Business VoiceEdge (BVE) product architecture
