Medical Director - Part Time

Overview:

The Medical Director supervises the medical operations of the treatment centers assigned and is medically responsible for oversight of all patients enrolled in the treatment programs at those centers. The Medical Director directs the medical team, including physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants, and ensures coordination with the nursing and clinical counseling team. The Medical Director will adhere to all federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and BrightView policies and procedures.  

Responsibilities:

PATIENT CARE AND MEDICAL OVERSIGHT

  • Ensure timely completion of all medical appointments, including new patient induction, follow-ups, medical histories, and laboratory testing.
  • Review laboratory results and medical documentation from other providers, managing patient care according to best practices.
  • Ensure medical providers prescribe and titrate medication-assisted treatment appropriately.
  • Ensure patients receive adequate services for communicable diseases, including risk evaluation, testing, and counseling.
  • Ensure availability to respond to treatment center staff and emergency care providers for patient consultations. 

COMPLIANCE, QUALITY ASSURANCE & ACCREDITATION

  • Conduct chart and dashboard reviews to ensure adherence to medical policies.
  • Ensure treatment centers meet accreditation standards related to medical, health, and safety requirements.
  • Provide medical supervision and maintain records for APPs as required by state law.
  • Participate in peer reviews for advanced practitioners and program physicians to comply with accrediting agency requirements. 

COLLABORATION, TRAINING, AND ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

  • Collaborate with physicians, clinics, and hospitals involved in patient care.
  • Provide consultation to medical, clinical, and administrative staff for patient treatment planning.
  • Conduct in-service training and community education on substance abuse-related mental health topics.
  • Assist in developing affiliations and relationships with community-based medical providers.
  • Provide input on annual performance reviews for the Center Director and nursing team members.
  • Assist in activities assigned by Senior Management.

  • Technologically capable, comfortable operating in multiple systems for communication and documentation purposes. Familiarity with MS Office software (Outlook, Teams, Word, etc) preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ethical standards
  • Embraces BrightView’s culture of compliance - operates with a high degree of integrity and compliance to work standards and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and 42-CFR Part 2 desired
  • Prior experience with harm reduction a plus
  • Organize time and responsibilities to meet workload requirements  
Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must hold a valid, active State medical license with current State controlled substance registration and federal DEA certificate number and provide documentation of renewal on or before expiration date. 
  • Board Certified in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry
  • Hospital admitting privileges in state of hire strongly preferred (or as required by applicable state of hire)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the practice of Medicine required. 
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes
  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.
  • Be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, some bending, stooping, and stretching
  • Variable workload, periodic high stress and activity level
  • Interactions with patients who may be ill, have infectious diseases, have mental health diagnoses and/or are involved in the criminal justice system
  • Standard medical office conditions and environments
