Open Until Filled McLean County Unit District No. 5 JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Certified Teacher - Music/ Band Location: Cedar Ridge Elementary and Parkside Junior High School Department: Building Personnel Reports to: Building Principal FLSA Class: Exempt FTE: 0.8 Cedar Ridge-Music/ .2 PJHS- Band Lead SUMMARY This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks with curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a classroom setting. DUTIES * Teaches District approved curriculum.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the District?s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
  • Shows concern for physical well-being and wholesome mental attitudes of pupils.
  • Accepts the responsibility for the conduct and behavior of pupils whenever the students are under the school?s jurisdiction.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Attends staff meetings, accepts committee appointments and the responsibility for working with other staff members on projects concerned with the improvement of the total school program.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Insures that instructional materials are utilized effectively for learning purposes.
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Cooperates with agencies toward the development of friendly and intelligent school-community relations.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Recognizes and makes provisions for meeting individual differences among students.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge and competency in his/her teaching field.
  • Uses a variety of educational tools to effectively evaluate strengths and weaknesses of classes, small groups, and individuals.
  • Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of District specialists.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Perform all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS * Teaching certificate for the particular position as required by the State.
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner
COMPENSATION Per the negotiated contract between McLean County Unit 5 and the United Five Education Association, for the 2023-2024 school year the starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree is $39,124 - $54,304 and is based upon Education and Certified Teaching experience. Candidates with a Master's Degree is $43,819 - $64,946 and is based upon Education and Certified Teaching experience. Fully Board Paid Medical, Dental, and Vision available.
