Job title: Special Skills Instructor - Cheer & Dance Instructor Company: YMCA Job description: Description : The YMCA of South Florida?s Hollywood YMCA Family Center is looking for an experienced Cheer & Dance Instructor. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Cheer & Dance Instructor plans and implements cheer and dance practices and instruction to youth participants. In addition, this individual will act as liaison between the Program Director and the staff, dispersing group communications. Essential Functions:
  • Plan age-appropriate cheer and dance practices for YMCA participants.
  • Develop lesson plans for the cheer and dance program and prepare the dance team for future performances.
  • Track participant?s attendance and progress.
  • Partner with the Program Director to coordinate and promote the Y?s cheer and dance program throughout the community.
  • Recruit and train cheer and dance volunteers
  • Maintain coordination with facility personnel for safety and benefit of participants in the program.
  • Ensure that children are following safety rules and practices.
  • Ensure that proper staff-to-child ratio is maintained at all times and report discrepancies to the Site Supervisor as needed.
  • Document all necessary administrative forms as directed by Site Supervisor/or Program Director.
  • Maintain high level of professionalism with parents, facility personnel, staff, and clients at all times. Communicate with parents and guardians regularly.
  • Uphold all YMCA policies and Risk Management / Safety procedures, which require reporting all incident and accidents to Site Supervisor immediately.
  • Know and follow proper emergency procedures appropriate to the facility and in conformity with procedures adopted by the YMCA of South Florida and emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of children.
  • Report to Site Supervisor when supplies are needed and preserve the quality of supplies and materials.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training opportunities as required.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years? formal Dance / Cheerleading programming experience.
  • Minimum of 2 year of Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Bilingual a plus (English and Spanish or English and Creole), a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, motivate students and lead group.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to relate to children.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must attend all regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Accepts and demonstrates YMCA core values; honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.
  • Have a strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills; be punctual and reliable in attendance.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations .
Certificates and Licenses:
  • Must obtain First Aid / CPR Certification within 90 days of being hired.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening and drug test. As a Drug-Free Workplace, all new hires must successfully complete a urinalysis within 72 hours of notice. Failure to complete the drug test within this timeframe will automatically disqualify you from employment.
