Our client, a leader in the renewable energy sector, is seeking a skilled Solar Project Engineer to join their team in San Diego, California. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for a balance between in-office collaboration and remote work flexibility. The Solar Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of solar energy projects, ensuring technical viability and adherence to engineering standards. Responsibilities: Perform electrical and structural design for photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems, including site layout, component selection, and single-line diagrams. Develop detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for utility-scale, commercial, and residential solar projects. Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to determine optimal system design and placement. Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams, and construction crews to ensure smooth project execution. Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, standards (NEC, CEC, etc.), and utility interconnection requirements. Perform system performance modeling and energy yield analyses. Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects. Review and approve submittals from equipment suppliers and subcontractors. Stay current with advancements in solar technology, industry best practices, and regulatory changes. Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license is a significant plus. Minimum of 4 years of experience in solar PV system design and engineering. Proficiency with solar design software (e.g., PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD) and electrical design tools. Solid understanding of electrical principles, power systems, and building codes (NEC). Experience with energy storage systems integration is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, managing tasks both independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with permitting processes and utility interconnection procedures. Experience with construction management or site supervision is a plus. This role requires occasional travel to project sites and in-office collaboration in our San Diego, California location.
