Environmental Group Manager As an Environmental Group Manager with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), you will oversee key programs that support clean air and strong environmental practices. Here, you will work closely with staff, partners, and communities to ensure that regulations are followed and issues are promptly addressed. This position leads the compliance and enforcement activities of the Air Quality Program throughout the northcentral region while supervising staff and coordinating major program efforts. You will guide inspections, review reports, and support regulatory decisions across multiple counties. As an Environmental Group Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Staff Supervision: Oversee staff performance, manage training plans, and review workload to support program goals
  • Regulatory Guidance: Provide direction on compliance evaluations, enforcement options, and technical issues related to air quality regulations
  • Program Oversight: Monitor inspection activities, review reports, and ensure consistency with department policies and procedures
  • Enforcement Coordination: Lead enforcement actions, review legal documents, and work with legal counsel and the Environmental Protection Agency on complex violations
  • Permit Review: Evaluate permit-related needs, coordinate inspections, and ensure timely completion of required follow up actions
  • Public Communication: Represent the agency in meetings, provide information to stakeholders, and support public outreach efforts

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel is required
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Williamsport. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; and five years of professional environmental protection experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
