As a forward-thinking organization operating at the intersection of cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and advanced machine learning, arenaflex is committed to protecting millions of users and organizations around the world from an ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats. Our work isn't just a job — it's a mission. Every day, our teams of engineers, researchers, and data scientists collaborate across disciplines to build intelligent systems that detect, analyze, and neutralize threats before they cause harm.

The arenaflex Security Reaction Center (SRC) team represents one of the most critical pillars of our cybersecurity infrastructure. Combining decades of cumulative expertise in threat detection, statistical analysis, and machine learning, the SRC team is responsible for safeguarding the arenaflex Cloud ecosystem against both known and emerging cyberattacks. To support this ambitious mission, we are seeking a highly motivated and technically rigorous Part Time Data Scientist to join our ranks. If you are passionate about the possibilities of data science, driven by the urgency of cybersecurity, and inspired by the challenge of applying cutting-edge AI to protect millions — this is your opportunity to make a genuinely meaningful impact at arenaflex.

Job Overview

As a Part Time Data Scientist within the arenaflex Security Reaction Center team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and deploying statistical, machine learning, and artificial intelligence models specifically engineered to detect and prevent cyberattacks targeting the arenaflex Cloud. This is a remote position offering $25 per hour with a commitment of approximately 8 hours per week, making it ideal for professionals seeking a flexible yet impactful part-time engagement alongside other commitments, or those looking to contribute specialized expertise to one of the world's most critical cybersecurity challenges.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with world-class security experts, fellow data scientists, ML engineers, and business stakeholders across arenaflex. You will have access to state-of-the-art tools and technologies, including arenaflex's own AI platform, big data infrastructure, and cloud-scale processing environments. Your work will directly influence the security posture of the arenaflex Cloud and contribute to the safety of countless organizations and individuals who depend on arenaflex services every day.

Key Responsibilities

Security Model Development & Deployment

  • Design, develop, and deploy statistical, machine learning, and AI-based security models tailored for online threat protection, intrusion detection, and anomaly identification — ensuring all models are production-ready, scalable, and aligned with business and security objectives.
  • Apply advanced ML techniques — including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning architectures (RNNs, LSTMs), time series forecasting (ARIMA), clustering methods (k-means), gradient boosting, and natural language processing — to identify patterns and signatures of malicious behavior across massive datasets.
  • Conduct rigorous hypothesis testing and controlled experiments using statistical methodologies to validate model efficacy before and after deployment, communicating findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Write and maintain production-quality scripts and code in Python, R, T-SQL, U-SQL, and KQL, following best practices for readability, extensibility, documentation, and version control.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to operationalize models at scale, overseeing model monitoring, performance tracking, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and long-term maintenance in live production environments.

Data Analysis & Insight Generation

  • Perform deep data analysis on large-scale, multi-source datasets — encompassing both structured and unstructured data — to uncover actionable security insights, threat indicators, and anomalous patterns.
  • Ensure data integrity, cleanliness, and privacy compliance throughout the modeling lifecycle, implementing robust quality assurance measures and data governance frameworks.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business and security context surrounding each project, translating complex business strategy briefings into concrete data science objectives and actionable model specifications.
  • Define and implement feedback loops and evaluation methodologies to continuously measure how deployed models perform against business and security goals, iterating rapidly based on real-world performance data.

Threat Intelligence & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work side by side with security threat intelligence experts at arenaflex to decode cyberattack tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), then translate that knowledge into effective, targeted ML model features and detection frameworks.
  • Engage with internal cross-functional partners — spanning sales, marketing, operations, and emerging data monetization teams — to identify how data-driven insights can unlock new value streams and business opportunities for arenaflex.
  • Communicate complex statistical and machine learning concepts to non-technical audiences through compelling data visualizations, storytelling techniques, and executive-level presentations that drive decision-making and action.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced data scientists and engineers on the team, sharing best practices in data analysis, model development, coding standards, and debugging techniques to elevate the overall capability of the team.

Research, Innovation & Thought Leadership

  • Actively research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies in the fields of AI, ML, cybersecurity, and big data — then apply those learnings to enhance arenaflex's threat detection capabilities.
  • Contribute to arenaflex's intellectual capital by authoring white papers, technical blog posts, and internal training sessions that share knowledge across teams and advance the broader field of applied AI in cybersecurity.
  • Collaborate with solution architects to provide guidance on model operationalization, ensuring that deployed solutions are seamlessly integrated with existing arenaflex technology stacks, products, and established architectural patterns.
  • Champion and embody ethical AI principles, security standards, and bias awareness throughout all modeling and data science activities, ensuring that arenaflex's AI systems are fair, transparent, and responsible.

Technical Infrastructure & Engineering Excellence

  • Leverage modern big data technologies and platforms — including the Hadoop ecosystem, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, MLflow, Docker containers, and REST API integrations — to build scalable, efficient data pipelines and model deployment frameworks.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation for data pipelines, model architectures, and predictive solutions, ensuring knowledge transfer, reproducibility, and maintainability across teams.
  • Apply formal modeling techniques — including dimensionality reduction, cross-validation, regularization strategies, feature encoding, ensemble methods, and activation function design — to optimize model performance, minimize overfitting, and ensure statistical and business relevance.
  • Understand and mitigate risks related to data leakage, bias-variance tradeoffs, and logistical constraints in model design, ensuring that all production systems are robust, reliable, and secure.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role at arenaflex, candidates must meet the following baseline requirements:

  • Advanced Degree: A Master's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field — or — a Doctoral degree in one of the aforementioned disciplines. Equivalent practical experience may also be considered in lieu of formal degrees.
  • Data Science Experience: A minimum of 2+ years of hands-on data science experience, demonstrated through work involving the management of both structured and unstructured data, the application of rigorous statistical methods, and the clear communication of analytical results.
  • Programming Proficiency: At least 2+ years of programming experience in Python (preferred) or Scala, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code for data processing, analysis, and machine learning tasks.
