Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain robust, low‑latency data pipelines that power analytics, machine‑learning models, and product features used by thousands of internal stakeholders and external customers. You will work closely with data architects, product managers, and software engineers to ensure that data is reliable, accessible, and delivered at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Modeling & Architecture: Design and evolve logical and physical data models for our lakehouse, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of analytics and AI workloads.
• Pipeline Development: Build high‑throughput, fault‑tolerant ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform, and store data from a variety of sources in near‑real time.
• Streaming & Real‑Time Processing: Implement streaming architectures that enable analytics and metrics to be available within seconds of event occurrence.
• Infrastructure as Code: Own the data platform’s IaC repositories, automating provisioning of services that allow engineers to spin up complex environments in hours.
• Performance Optimization: Develop and maintain a high‑performance data pipeline that scales with growing data volumes while minimizing latency and cost.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Coach junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of best practices and continuous improvement.
• Cloud Services Integration: Design and implement scalable services on AWS (or comparable cloud platforms) that support data ingestion, storage, and processing.
• Documentation & Governance: Create clear documentation, data dictionaries, and governance policies to ensure data quality and compliance.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 3+ years of professional experience building data pipelines and data platforms at scale.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, or Java.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, data warehousing concepts, and SQL query optimization.
• Hands‑on experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs and micro‑services.
• Familiarity with cloud data services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and willingness to deepen expertise in AWS services such as S3, Redshift, Glue, Kinesis, and Lambda.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for data workloads.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver high‑quality results in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or big data technologies.
• Experience with modern data lakehouse architectures (e.g., Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi).
• Knowledge of streaming frameworks such as Apache Flink, Spark Structured Streaming, or Kafka Streams.
• Background in building internal developer platforms or self‑service data tooling.
• Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and feature stores.
