[Remote] Principal Mechanical Engineer (forensics)

TYG is a well-established, growing, multi-disciplinary forensic consulting firm, seeking a Principal Forensic Mechanical Engineer to lead and manage a team of skilled forensic engineers. In this role, you will oversee complex forensic investigations, provide expert consultation, and serve as an expert witness in legal matters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Oversee Investigations : Manage and direct forensic investigations into the cause and origin of mechanical system failures, damages, and defects across a range of industrial, commercial, and residential sites
  • Analyze Failures : Provide expert analysis of mechanical failures, assess construction quality, and review design and maintenance procedures. Offer comprehensive recommendations for repair or replacement where necessary
  • Team Leadership : Head a multidisciplinary team on large and complex forensic projects. Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical direction to team members, ensuring high standards of quality and performance
  • Client Relations and Reporting : Prepare and review clear, concise, and detailed reports and documentation, offering expert opinions and conclusions. Maintain and develop strong relationships with clients and consultants, acting as the primary point of contact for all forensic mechanical matters
  • Expert Testimony : Serve as an expert witness, offering authoritative testimony in legal and regulatory settings where required

Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in evaluating mechanical system and component failures within commercial or industrial settings
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams or projects in a forensic or engineering setting
  • Proven experience providing expert witness testimony is a strong asset
  • A collaborative leader with a desire to mentor and foster growth within a team of professionals
  • Multi-state licensing is highly preferred
