[Remote] Substation Engineering Manager

We are seeking a Substation Engineering Manager to manage our substation projects, leading and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts to ensure compliance with industry standards and project execution.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design and development of electrical substation projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations
- Manage substation engineering programs from concept through completion, providing leadership in scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and risk mitigation
- Lead cross‑functional collaboration by coordinating engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution of substation initiatives
- Provide technical leadership by reviewing and approving technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for substation equipment, components, and systems
- Direct engineering analyses including feasibility studies, load flow modeling, short‑circuit studies, and other simulations to ensure system reliability and operational efficiency
- Guide equipment evaluation by overseeing the selection of transformers, breakers, relays, and control systems to meet project and system requirements
- Supervise field assessments by directing site visits, evaluating existing substation conditions, identifying issues, and approving recommended maintenance or upgrade strategies
- Review and approve contractor submittals to ensure alignment with project requirements, design intent, and engineering standards
- Promote continuous improvement by staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in substation engineering and integrating them into team practices
- Lead and mentor engineering staff by providing direction, coaching, and technical expertise while fostering a collaborative, high‑performance work environment
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required
- 12+ years of experience in Electric Substation engineering required
- Professional Engineer license (PE) required
- Knowledge of power systems, electrical circuits and substation fundamentals
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and IEC related to substation design and operation
- Relay Engineer, Substation Physicals Engineer, Substation Civil Engineer experience
- Proficiency in relevant software tools, including CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation) and electrical simulation software (ETAP, PSCAD, or similar)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for conducting technical studies and performing accurate calculations
- Effective communication skills to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present technical information clearly
- Enthusiasm for learning and staying abreast on advancements in substation engineering and related technologies
- Ability to manage and mentor teams and foster a collaborative, high‑performance work environment while providing clear direction, support, and technical guidance
- Master's degree preferred
