Initial Posting Date: 12/03/2024 Application Deadline: 12/24/2024 Agency: Department of Justice Salary Range: $6,319 - $10,313 Position Type: Employee Position Title: Criminal Investigator - Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Job Description: The Oregon Department of Justice, is recruiting for a highly experienced Criminal Investigator to work in the Criminal Justice Division in Salem. The assignment will be in the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) but the agent may be assigned to any other unit (Organized Crimes, District Attorney Assist, Elder Crimes, etc.) within the Criminal Justice Division on the needs of the agency. This is a statewide recruitment with opportunity to work a hybrid schedule at locations across the state. The purpose of this role is primarily to conduct complex computer forensic investigations to investigate child sexual exploitation and internet crimes against children by agencies request, and to liaison investigations with federal, state, and local agencies. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has experience forensic and technical investigating complex criminal investigations. The mission of the ICAC Task Force is to identify, apprehend, and prosecute sexual predators who exploit children through the use of computers and the Internet, and to sponsor community education efforts regarding the prevention of internet crimes against children. The Organized Crime Unit is charged with investigating the infiltration of organized crime groups, detecting, and combating existing organized criminal activity, and investigating cases for state agencies and counties upon request. Criminal investigators in the District Attorney Assist section carry out this mission by providing investigative assistance to Oregon prosecutors on major serious crimes, inclusive of financial crimes, noted for their complex facts and difficult legal issues. The Elders Crimes Unit investigates crimes targeting our vulnerable elder population. The Division has special agents, prosecutors, and analysts who work cohesively in identifying and combating such crimes. In addition, the Division has specialized equipment and trained personnel to conduct wiretap investigations, and to provide technical and covert investigative support. These investigations and the supporting technical assistance are highly effective at disrupting and dismantling criminal organizations. This is a sworn police officer position represented by the Criminal Investigators Association (CIA). REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Four years of recent (within the last ten years) full-time criminal investigative experience. College-level coursework in a related field or criminal investigation training in criminal law may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience. AND Candidate must either possess an active Oregon (DPSST) Advanced Police certification (or higher); OR have another state or federal equivalent certification and/or be able to obtain an Advanced Police certification within a year of hire. Maintain an appropriate Oregon State driver license to drive a vehicle in normal and emergency situations. Maintain a qualifying score with duty firearm(s) as well as certification in First Aid and CPR. Able to successfully clear a comprehensive criminal background investigation, reference checks, and psychological examination. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification. Must meet physician-attended physical standards (per DPSST form F-2). Excellent organization, analytical, oral presentation, and writing skills. Willing and able to travel statewide, sometimes overnight, in order to meet case, training, and outreach needs. Willing and able to attend occasional evening/weekend meetings.
