Position Summary OrthoBio Therapeutics, a stealth mode startup, is seeking an experienced collaborative private company Controller to provide hands-on financial leadership, accounting oversight, and operational finance support as the company advances through critical regulatory, manufacturing, and clinical development milestones. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing month-end close activities, overseeing accounting operations, improving financial controls, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, and ensuring readiness for future audits, financing events, and strategic transactions. This role is ideal for an experienced biotech or life sciences finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly accounting close processes and preparation of accurate financial statements and consolidations for US and UK operations
  • Maintain the general ledger, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting financial records
  • Oversee accounts payable, payroll, and cash management activities
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and budget-to-actual reporting
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, tax requirements, and financial controls
  • Manage and coordinate with external accountants, payroll providers, and tax advisors.
  • Coordinate reviews and reporting with Auditors
  • Oversee the company’s equity administration including stock option plan with Carta
  • Support financial reporting for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and investors
  • Improve and mature financial processes, reporting tools, and internal controls to support company growth
  • Partner closely with the CFO and leadership to provide financial oversight of company operations, key vendors, and strategic initiatives

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Prior experience serving as Controller or Assistant Controller
  • Experience supporting venture-backed biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or medical device companies
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Experience managing outsourced accounting functions and third-party service providers
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero or similar and Microsoft Excel

Preferred

  • Experience supporting companies through financing rounds and investor due diligence
  • Knowledge of clinical-stage biotechnology accounting practices
  • Experience with international entities and multi-currency accounting
  • Experience supporting organizations with outsourced CRO, CDMO, and research operations
