Payroll Specialist - Health Care HR (Hybrid w/in IA)

Overview:

The Payroll Specialist will provide guidance and support to staff members and departmental representatives regarding payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with less complex payroll policies and procedures. This role will also audit standard reports, process payroll corrections, and maintain knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Provide guidance and basic instructions to staff members and manager/supervisors regarding payroll policies and procedures, ELMS, AFSCME and SEIU contract rules related to payroll. Direct others to appropriate resources for further information in own specialty or other areas.

  • Interpret and promote compliance with less complex payroll policies/procedures. Monitor for compliance. May provide information to department representatives and University Payroll.
  • Audit standard reports (monthly, biweekly and holiday) to ensure completeness and accuracy of payroll data.
  • Process payroll corrections for monthly and biweekly payroll.
  • Assist and provide backup in closing biweekly pay periods in ELMS.
  • Assist employees and managers/supervisors in the proper use of vacation, sick leave, family leave, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, particularly around the areas of payroll issues, including those covered by the University Operations Manual, Board of Regents Merit System, AFSCME and SEIU union contracts.
  • Create positive interactions with staff to enhance employee relations. Apply all collective bargaining agreements in administering all aspects of payroll policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 1-3 years human resources experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience with payroll functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability with providing excellent and timely customer service.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high transaction volume environment.
