Principal Firmware Engineer

Job Purpose: In this role, the Firmware Development Engineer will participate in firmware engineering activities for the VES firmware development group in support of cutting edge data storage products and server product design in Colorado Springs. This person will report to the Firmware Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will participate in storage/server product development activities on Baseboard Management Controllers (BMC) and storage controllers. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting field issues related to BMC/SES firmware, and engage with our external partners to resolve problems. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of independently completing firmware design document creation, firmware code development and unit test activities to ship firmware projects on time with good quality. Nature of Duties: • Working closely with Storage/Server HW design and firmware leads to provide early input on firmware design requirements • Collaborate on high level design and low level design documents • Work closely with project teams to provide a sizing and schedules on given tasks • Drive the firmware development effort from design, implementation, unit test, HW & FW integration to finally bug resolution to complete projects to GA. • Participate in firmware code development and code review process • Provide weekly status update to program management on development status • Provide support to field application engineers to debug and resolve problems at customer sites Education and Experience: • BS or MS degree in Electrical engineering or computer science • 8+ years of hands on experience in product design, firmware development in a medium or large global organization • Excellent working knowledge of embedded system design and embedded firmware development • Preferred (working knowledge and hands on experience on BMC firmware development • Excellent working knowledge of the Linux OS and embedded Linux environments • Experienced in Server/Storage system architecture • Preferred experience in testing of BMC, BIOS and SES firmware for storage/server applications • Good system Hardware/Software integration skills • Good communication skills to interact with external customer and engineering team • Experienced in system level problem debug, problem determination and finding resolution • Knowledge of IP Networking • Familiar with OpenBMC/Yocto community • Preferred knowledge of protocols including SES, IPMI, Redfish Sanmina is an Equal Opportunity Employer – M/F/Veteran/Disability/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity Salary Range(annual): $110,000 - $145,000 In addition, Sanmina Provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
