RESPONSIBILITIES Scheduling & Coordination – Contact references, set clear expectations, and schedule calls professionally within 18 hours of notification (excluding weekends). Reference Interviews – Each reference conversation will have goals and set questions, and it will be the Reference Checker’s responsibility to navigate the conversation relationally and smoothly to uncover meaningful insights. Summarization & Analysis – Accurately summarize reference feedback, identifying key themes and patterns that provide meaningful insights. Client Reporting – Present findings in a structured, clear, and professional format to help clients make well-informed hiring decisions. Documentation – Maintain accurate records in Crelate (our ATS), ensuring reference data is stored efficiently and consistently. WHO YOU ARE You are a detail-oriented professional with strong listening, analytical, and communication skills. You believe in supporting alignment rather than eliminating candidates and have a talent for identifying valuable insights from reference conversations. You thrive in a role that balances structure with critical thinking and are comfortable working independently in a fully remote, flexible environment. WORKLOAD & EXPECTATIONS Fluctuating Weekly Demand – The workload will vary based on candidate volume, making this a great role for someone who values flexibility. This is why the position is a 1099 contract rather than a full-time position. Timely Attention to References – Reference calls and reports must be completed within 18 hours of assignment (excluding weekends). This ensures that clients receive prompt insights to support their fast-moving hiring decisions. WHAT YOU BRING HR experience is NOT required—we value strong communication and relational skills over an HR background. Experience in conducting polite and curious professional experience conversations. Excellent verbal communication skills. High level of confidentiality and ethical judgment. Ability to manage multiple reference checks efficiently while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Comfortable using a computer, working remotely, and being accountable in a digital environment. Familiarity with or willingness to learn Crelate, Google Docs, Gmail, Zoom, and RingCentral. Ability to follow and execute our structured reference-checking process.
