Position Purpose RLI is making significant investments in our core systems that help deliver and drive greater efficiencies. We are currently seeking a talented Software Engineer to focus on the continued support, maintenance and integration of the AS400 policy platform. Under occasional supervision, collaborates with team to design, develop, modify, and maintain software applications of high complexity. Performs coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process. Responsible to build design in partnership with Leads and Architects development to meet business needs. Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the business to develop well-designed solutions that meet business needs.
• Analyzes software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
• Compiles objective data to influence decisions and strategy.
• Designs, develops, and implements software applications of high complexity.
• Performs post implementation support and system enhancements.
• Mentors and helps direct junior and intermediate Software Engineers.
• Coordinates with internal contacts to perform specific project tasks or resolve technical issues.
• Seeks out and utilizes new technology solutions and best practices to improve process, increase stability, and reduce cost/time to market.
• Assists in setting standards for product/process quality and monitors team’s output.
• Leads in special projects and other duties as needed

Education & Experience

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• [OR] equivalent level of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of the AS400 or iSeries system and work experience in the AS400 or iSeries hardware.
• System administration, including AS400 access management, security, and printers.
• Management of AS400 scheduled and interactive jobs.
• Experience with AS400 COBOL, Synon, RPG, ILE, CL, SQL, and SDA.
• Basic AS400 admin commands like Basic Knowledge in SQLRPGLE, DB2/400, SPL/400, PDM, SDA, SEU, RLU, WRKQRY.
• Experience with development of various Web Technologies and Web Services.
• Prior experience with Version Control, Object Oriented Programming and Relational Database Systems/Data Management preferred.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to understand and utilize a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures.
• Ability to generate innovative solutions for Business Requirements.
• Ability to work well independently or within a team.

Compensation

Overview The base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future. Base Pay Range $94,376.00 - $134,958.00 Total Rewards At RLI, we're all owners.
