Job Overview:

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr Specialist, Communications to join our dynamic team at American Airlines. As a key member of our Global Engagement team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the company's communications, driving engagement with internal and external stakeholders, and building and protecting the airline's brand and reputation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of American Airlines' operations and strategic policies, as well as the broader airline industry.
  • Support the Corporate Communications team in creating and delivering complex messages in a clear and concise manner for internal and external audiences.
  • Identify and leverage communications channels and processes to engage with frontline employees, leadership, support staff, media, customers, and the general public.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, handle media inquiries, and serve as a company spokesperson.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies around sensitive and high-profile issues with tight deadlines.
  • Create compelling communications plans and business education campaigns to help American Airlines' stakeholders understand significant business decisions.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Global Engagement team by building and maintaining strong relationships with leaders across the organization.
  • Provide support and content for other company channels as needed.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training.
  • 4 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
  • Preferred: 4 years of significant work experience in communications or media relations, experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, global organization, and knowledge of the airline industry.

  • Results-oriented and able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
