Amplify is seeking an ELL and SPED Content Specialist, ELA 6-8 with strong knowledge and experience differentiating content to support ELL students and students who are multilingual learners. This specialist will lead efforts to ensure all core ELA content supports all students and their diverse learning and language needs. The ELL and SPED Content Specialist will receive ongoing training in the program pedagogy, content architecture, and instructional framework, and be tasked with developing deeply effective differentiated supports and instructional guidance for the print and digital lesson content developed to bring those frameworks to life. The ELL and SPED content specialist works collaboratively to develop an approach to these supports across content areas so that all students can participate in the challenge to read deeply, think critically, and develop and extend their ideas in writing, discussion, projects, and presentations. They work in an iterative and fast-paced environment to craft consistent drafts and apply ongoing feedback to ensure that the final lessons and instructions meet the high quality of differentiated supports customers expect from Amplify.   • This is a contract role.

Responsibilities of the ELL and SPED Content Specialist, ELA 6-8:

  • Work collaboratively with literacy leadership and experts to review, assess and revise the current approach to differentiating content for SPED and ELL students to ensure an approach that reflects highly effective practices.
  • Craft the differentiated supports within lessons to ensure students with a variety of learning and language needs can dig into the lesson text, investigate key elements of that text, collaborate with classmates to refine their understanding, and express that understanding through presentations, performances, writing, or other means.
  • Develop teacher guidance that supports teachers to implement and facilitate differentiation effectively.
  • Create team guidance that spells out the developed approach to how to differentiate a lesson for ELLs and SPED students.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, and other content producers to ensure differentiation is highly effective and usable.
  • Work productively and collaboratively with content leads, writers, editors, designers and producers within a cycle of drafting, reviewing feedback, and incorporating feedback to produce highly effective final lessons and stronger content moving forwards.
  • Learn and work within new instructional platforms and work systems.
  • Create RFP boilerplate language to describe the approach and components of differentiation developed within the program.

Basic Qualifications of the ELL and SPED Content Specialist, ELA 6-8 :

  • BA and licensure/ certification related to ESL, TEFL or special education.
  • 3+ years secondary education experience working with students with diverse language or learning needs.
  • Solid knowledge of the current understanding of best practices for supporting students with diverse language and learning needs.
  • Experience creating differentiated supports or curriculum for students with diverse language and learning needs.
  • Demonstrated writing skills
  • Demonstrated strengths as a collaborator
  • Strong analytic reading and thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and balance work on multiple projects
  • Acute attention to detail
  • *Some travel and in-person (Brooklyn-based) required (about 10-15%)

Preferred Qualifications of the ELL and SPED Content Specialist, ELA 6-8 :

  • Experience crafting differentiated curricula that integrates different genres, technologies, and media
  • Experience coaching or training teachers to differentiate and support students with diverse language or learning needs.
  • Graduate degree in a field relevant to supporting the needs of students with diverse language or learning needs.
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish
  • Comfort with a range of technology
  • Strong reading and thinking skills

Compensation: The hourly rate range for this role is $45 - $50. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
