OPEN UNTIL FILLED Led by a Board of Directors made up of elected officials from each of the 24 cities and towns and the five county supervisorial districts, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) staff is focused primarily on freeway, interchange, and transit enhancements to the region that first and foremost benefit the taxpayer of San Bernardino County. Coupling that effort with various non-transportation related objectives from the Council of Governments role of the agency brings the mission of providing quality of life improvements to the residents, business operators, and commuters of our region to the forefront. For more than four decades, SBCTA (previously known as SANBAG) has taken pride in delivering on its commitment to the voters through the implementation of Measure I. This half-cent sales tax that generates transportation dollars that are from the region and for the region is a critical element in the agency's goal to keep people and goods moving effectively. SBCTA calls the historic San Bernardino Santa Fe Depot home. Our headquarters not only positions the agency in the heart of the county, but is symbolic of our longstanding commitment to transportation. Under general direction of the Chief of Air Quality & Mobility Programs, the selected student will assist with the San Bernardino Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) Program, promote the regional 511 system, as well as assist with various other tasks to improve mobility for commuters throughout the region. This list is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive list of all functions and duties performed by employees in this position.

  • Provide support to the San Bernardino FSP Program.
  • Assist with developing and drafting copy, editing, reviewing and communicating and contributing toward various department projects such as FSP, regional Southern California 511 system, and other department tasks.
  • Assist with the updating, organizing and processing of various Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) documents and materials that support the Program. This includes supporting and at times attending some of the various FSP related meetings. Employee (Intern) will be asked to create agendas and may work with tow operators and the California Highway Patrol at times.
  • Preparing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manuals that are used for the training of FSP Drivers, as well as service awards and certificates.
  • Perform various other related tasks/duties as required.

Knowledge of:

  • Current enrollment in a recognized four-year college or university, or graduate students, with a major study area in public administration, transportation, finance or a related field.
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task. Comfortable working with various agencies and organizations including law enforcement.
  • Looking for enthusiastic candidates anxious to contribute toward the efforts of the agency and its programs.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in an efficient and cooperative manner.
  • English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to work, including word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft Word and Excel for example) .
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and eligible to work in this country as determined by the U.S. Immigration Laws and the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance.

Hours: Approximately 10-20 hours per week. Work hours may be arranged to meet student’s school schedule, but generally are within 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
